Friars Wynd news, time to buy your festival tickets and Granny Square Day 2024!

Festival news - Tickets are available now for the Glasgow School of Yarn and the Scottish Yarn Festival. See below for more details but we'll be attending the Scottish Yarn Festival on Saturday 7 September and Glasgow School of Yarn on Saturday 19 October. Please RSVP on Meetup if you are interested in coming with us so that you we can keep you up-to-date with plans. Make sure that you buy your tickets from the organisers in good time since these events may sell out and there's no guarantee that tickets will be available on the door.

Friars Wynd news - The Friars Wynd is now under new ownership and the kitchen will not be reopening ever (!) according to staff. Drinks and cakes were available as usual last Monday but there will be no hot food in the evenings. The new owners are apparently also planning to move to more of a cocktail/wine bar-type "vibe". We will keep meeting there for the time being and see how things develop but we may want to think about looking for a new venue at some point in the future. If anyone has any suggestions for a venue, preferably in the city centre, with good seating for large groups (6-10 people), good lighting, coffee, cake, light meals/snacks that's open till 8pm on a Monday evening, please let me know.

In other news, did you know that 15 August was Granny Square Day? Check out Simply Crochet's site and Instagram for some online granny square fun!

August bank holiday - we'll be meeting online as usual online on the August bank holiday (26 August).

Yarn festival details

​Scottish Yarn Festival: 7 September, Errol Showground, Perthshire. A change of venue this year means that the festival is now only on the Saturday (7th) and not also the Sunday, as previously announced. The festival organisers have set up a Facebook group to discuss travel arrangements but public transport appears to be very limited and it's not clear yet whether any organised transport to the venue will be available so we'll probably organise our own car-sharing from Stirling. Tickets are now on sale. RSVP on Meetup if you're interested in attending with us.

​Glasgow School of Yarn: 18-20 October, Trades Hall, Glasgow and we're going on Saturday 19 October. Tickets are now on sale and I recommend buying a standard ticket for the Saturday unless you want the goodie bag that comes with the deluxe ticket. The intention is that we'll get the train from Stirling to Glasgow Queen Street, with meeting points at Stirling, Queen Street and the venue, as needed. Times tbc closer to the date but we're likely to be at the venue shortly after 11. RSVP on Meetup if you're interested in coming with us and remember to buy your ticket!
