Stirling Knit 'n' Natter - October 2024 newsletter

Stirling Knit 'n' Natter - October 2024

Last chance to join us at the Glasgow School of Yarn and time to think about our Christmas dinner!

Last reminder that we're going to the Glasgow School of Yarn on Saturday 19 October so you'll need to act soon if you want to come with us. At the time of writing, tickets are still available but they may sell out and there's no guarantee that tickets will be available on the door. See below for more details.

It's also time to start organising our annual festive dinner. This year, it will be on 9 December (instead of our usual in-person meetup that was scheduled for that night). Please RSVP soon so that we can get a table booked in plenty of time. (Please let me know if you want to join us but are concerned about the cost. There are group funds available that can be used to make sure everyone who wants to come can.)

Since the Friars Wynd no longer serves food, we'll need to find another venue. Options so far include the Allan Park and the Meadowpark, both of which have festive menus: £30 for 2 courses or £38/£40 for 3 courses. Let me know if you have any other suggestions for venues in or around Stirling. We'll organise shared transport from the city centre if we end up in a venue that's further afield.

In other news, Yarnstravaganza! is running till 5 October celebrating local yarn shops. Check out the UK Hand Knitting Association website for more details of participating shops and events.

And, finally, a knitter in Cambusbarron is setting up a new service to help people learn to knit. The Yarn Angel can help with teaching, fixing mistakes, finishing projects and will gladly accept donations of unwanted yarn and tools. Check out her page on Facebook for more details.

Happy crafting!

Susan

Glasgow School of Yarn details

Glasgow School of Yarn: 18-20 October, Trades Hall, Glasgow and we're going on Saturday 19 October. Tickets are still available and I recommend buying a standard ticket for the Saturday unless you want the goodie bag that comes with the deluxe ticket. The intention is that we'll get the train from Stirling to Glasgow Queen Street, with meeting points at Stirling, Queen Street and the venue, as needed. Times tbc closer to the date but we're likely to be at the venue shortly after 11. RSVP on Meetup if you're interested in coming with us and remember to buy your ticket!

Other dates for your diary

Events in bold are those that we will definitely be attending as a group and I'll add links to the relevant Meetup events when they're live. Other events are listed for information but let me know if you'd be interested in attending as a group. Similarly, email me at susan@yellowgingerdesigns.co.uk with details of other crafty events or exhibitions in central Scotland and I'll add them to the list.

Stirling Knit 'n' Natter - April 2025 We've (almost) moved off Meetup! This month's newsletter is being sent a little earlier than usual so that everyone has time to find our new homes before we finally move off Meetup, which will happen at the beginning of April. It's also a long one since it has details of everywhere that you'll be able to find out what we're up to from now on. Moving off Meetup For the past 6 and a half years, the Stirling Knit 'n' Natter group has been organised on...

Stirling Knit 'n' Natter - March 2025 Getting ready to move off Meetup! Moving off Meetup For the past 6 and a half years, the Stirling Knit 'n' Natter group has been organised on Meetup.com and is how almost all of our members have found us. However, over that time, Meetup has become more expensive and its focus has been shifting more and more from making friends to making money. As a result, I've decided that we will be moving away from Meetup when our current subscription ends in April....
