Stirling Knit 'n' Natter - November 2025
I'm sending this a little earlier than usual this month because we are no longer able to meet at the Friars Wynd. Instead, on Monday 27 October, we will be meeting at the Golden Lion Hotel (see below for more details). We also have a new WhatsApp community for keeping in touch, there's a new yarn festival and it's time to start planning for Christmas!
In-person update
The Friars Wynd have closed their cafe/bar area so we're looking for a new meeting place for our in-person meetups. We're going to try the Golden Lion Hotel on King Street first but we may try other venues before settling on somewhere "permanent". I'm open to suggestions of places we could try (preferably in the city centre) that are open from 6-8pm on Mondays, have suitable space and, ideally, serve tea/coffee. (Cakes/snacks and/or other food would be a bonus!)
On Monday 27th, we'll meet in Cronies Bar at the Golden Lion: go in the front door, up the steps and turn left, sign-posted for the bar and restaurant. We don't have a booking so, if you're first there, we're just looking to grab a table or tables to fit 6-8 of us.
If you're not sure where we're meeting or can't find us on a particular Monday night, please do text or call me on 07801 966 521, or ask on WhatsApp (see below) and I can let you know where we are. Hopefully though, we'll find a new home soon!
New yarn festival: East Neuk Knits
There's a new local(ish) yarn festival starting up this year! East Neuk Knits is happening in St Monans, Fife, on 29 and 30 November. I'm thinking about going (and possibly squeezing in a trip to the Woolly Brew at the same time) so do let me know if you fancy coming. The venue doesn't appear to be easily accessible by public transport but I'm happy to take people in my car from Stirling.
Our new WhatsApp community
Finding out that the Friars Wynd was closed at 5pm on a Monday evening really highlighted that I really don't have a good way to quickly get in touch with people when plans change so I have set us up a (completely optional!) Whatsapp community to help with that. See below for more details.
Christmas meal plans
It's time to think about booking somewhere for our Christmas meal in December so I've set up a quick survey to gauge interest and help pick a date and a venue. If you'd like to join us, please fill out the survey asap!
Happy crafting!
Susan
Our new WhatsApp community
I appreciate that some of you don't have access to WhatsApp or don't want to use it but a significant majority of the group do, which means that it is currently the best way for me to get in touch with a large number of people quickly and easily. It won't ever be our sole method of communication but I am hoping that it will make at least some group communication much easier for me! (If you don't join the community, I will do my best to contact you directly in the event of a last-minute change of plans, assuming I have a phone number or email address for you.)
If you do want to join the community, you can do so via this link or by scanning the QR code below. You'll see an "Announcements" channel and a couple of groups within the community. Only I can post to "Announcements" so this will be where you can find important news without any chit-chat.
Any member of the community can post in the other groups. For now, I've added two: an "In person meetups" group and a "General" group. If you join the community, you can choose to join some or all or none of the groups, depending on what you want to see. My hope is that the "In person meetups" group will be helpful if there are any last minute changes to arrangements, particularly while we're trying to find a new "permanent" home. The "General" group is just what it says on the tin, a place for any general crafty chit-chat. If wanted, we can set up other groups in future for specific events or topics.
I'm happy to walk people through joining the community and the groups, if that would be helpful. It's easier in person or over Zoom but you can always email me questions or comments at susan@yellowgingerdesigns.co.uk.
Scan the QR code to join the community.
Other dates for your diary
Events in bold are those that we will definitely be attending as a group and there will be more details in future newsletters. Other events are listed for information but let me know if you'd be interested in attending as a group. Similarly, email me at susan@yellowgingerdesigns.co.uk with details of other crafty events or exhibitions in central Scotland and I'll add them to the list.
